Oil on canvas
16 x 16 (Left), 30” x 24” (Right)
This oil painting is inspired by the nostalgia of my Caribbean childhood and the experience of being the “eldest daughter”. I wanted to explore more of the negative space in my work, creating interesting shapes in compositions, similar to how the negative space in “Daline” functions as positive space. This painting marks the beginning of my exploration of deconstruction, working with multiple panels. The left panel represents the weight of being the eldest daughter, and the right represents the tangible
experience of being a child.
