DESCRIPTION: Abuelitas Kitchen is a love letter to the women who teach
healing through nourishment, tenderness, and ritual. Centering the phrase
“I learned how to love and heal in my abuelitas kitchen,” the work honors
domestic space as sanctuary—a site where food, medicine, storytelling,
and ancestral knowledge are passed from one generation to the next.
Rooted in the artist’s memories of her grandmother’s Brooklyn kitchen, the
piece reflects how everyday acts of care can become forms of spiritual
practice. Herbs simmering on the stove, bacalao prepared with intention,
and meals shared in community become gestures of devotion and
survival. Through direct language and minimal composition, the work
transforms memory into monument, honoring the women whose love lives
inside the rituals they leave behind.
Thank you for supporting the SCOUT Art Fair. While the event has ended, you may contact the artist for more information, including how to purchase this piece.
