Melissa Sutherland Moss (b. Brooklyn, NY) is a Costa Rican American interdisciplinary artist and adjunct professor at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Her practice spans collage, sculpture, installation, video, sound, text, and performance. Drawing from research, personal history, and material experimentation, she explores landscape, identity, and migration through Black diasporic histories across the Caribbean, Latin America, and the United States. Her work often draws on archival materials, family photographs, and inherited narratives to examine visibility, concealment, labor, and belonging. Her work has been exhibited at institutions including the Biggs Museum of American Art and the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center. She has received residencies and fellowships from MASS MoCA, ArtCrawl Harlem, Alliance of Artists Communities, and Zea Mays Printmaking. Her work and perspective have appeared in publications including Forbes, Black Enterprise, Essence, and Refinery29.
