Jess Owens-Young
Booth 023Jess Owens-Young (b.1986) is a collage and mixed media artist whose work is informed by her
experiences as a Black woman, professor, mother, and a former athlete. Her work explores the
joy and melancholy of living while Black in the United States, especially during childhood. Jess
works primarily with vintage magazines, acrylics, oil pastels, oil pigment sticks, and acrylic inks
on paper.
Her work is in private collections nationally and internationally. Her recent group shows include
“SAVAGE” at Band of Vices (Los Angeles, CA) and “Good Sports” at the American Visionary Art
Museum. She currently lives and works in Catonsville, MD with her wife and daughter.
